Integration & Setup

  • The Smarter AI Dashcam G offers versatile connectivity options for seamless integration with your vehicle:

    1. Direct Connection to GO Device

    • For vehicles equipped with a GO device, utilize the provided Smarter Cable G to establish a direct connection between the camera and the IOX port on the GO device. For more information, check out the quick start guide.

    2. Integration with OEM Embedded Telematics (Vehicles without GO Device)

    • For vehicles featuring OEM embedded telematics and no GO device, the camera can be integrated via:

      • Hardwired Connection: Employ the 3-wire harness to connect the camera directly to the vehicle's fuse panel. For more information, check out the quick start guide.

      • OBD-II Port Connection: Alternatively, use the OBD harness to connect the camera to the vehicle's OBD-II port. For more information, check out the quick start guide.

    Important Note:

    When utilizing either of the OEM embedded telematics integration methods, after completing the installation and onboarding the camera through the Smarter AI mobile application, manual pairing within MyGeotab is required.

    To pair the camera:

    1. Access the relevant asset in MyGeotab.

    2. Navigate to the camera pairing section.

    3. Select 'Smarter AI' from the dropdown menu.

    4. Enter the camera's serial number (found on the box or the camera itself, adjacent to "S/N").

  • Installers must use the free Smarter AI app (available on iOS and Android) to ensure proper mounting, installation, and adjustment of the dashcam. Camera management is seamlessly integrated into the MyGeotab platform and app.

  • Adjustment Mode is a feature in Smarter AI dashcams that allows installers to quickly and accurately mount and align both cabin and road-facing cameras. By using AI-driven real-time feedback, it streams live video to a mobile device, guiding installers through the process to ensure proper camera positioning and alignment.

  • Adjustment Mode is essential for ensuring cameras are properly aligned, which is critical for accurate data collection in ADAS and DMS systems. Misaligned cameras can lead to false positives or missed events, which can undermine system performance. Adjustment Mode eliminates guesswork, providing installers with real-time AI-driven feedback.

    • Third-party installers who may not be familiar with specific fleets or vehicles can benefit from Adjustment Mode, as it provides real-time guidance to ensure correct installation.

    • In-house installers and fleet operators can use Adjustment Mode to efficiently manage large-scale dashcam installations, ensuring consistency across vehicles.

    • Initial Installation: It’s crucial during the initial setup to ensure proper alignment, especially in fleets where reinstallation or maintenance is challenging or costly.

    • Camera Remounting: Whenever a camera is repositioned due to vehicle maintenance or changes in mounting location, Adjustment Mode should be used to readjust the camera.

    • Post-Incident: After incidents like collisions, cameras may be misaligned. Adjustment Mode helps realign them to maintain reliable video capture.

    • Fleet Inspections: During routine fleet inspections, Adjustment Mode ensures cameras are correctly positioned for optimal performance.

    • On Camera Activation: Adjustment Mode will be automatically enabled when a dashcam is first activated, allowing installers to begin mounting and aligning the cameras immediately.

    • On-Demand Activation: It can also be activated on demand via the Smarter AI dashboard or mobile app by a user with administrative privileges. This allows flexibility for adjustments during installation or remounting.

    • Enter Adjustment Mode: Use the Smarter AI mobile app or dashcam interface to enter Adjustment Mode.

    • Position the Camera: Ensure the camera is securely mounted for an optimal field of view.

    • Adjust Camera Angles: Use the live video stream to align both the cabin and road-facing cameras.

    • Verify Alignment: Confirm that the cameras have clear views of both the driver and the road.

    • Finalize Calibration: Once you exit Adjustment Mode, the Smarter AI Dashcam will automatically self-calibrate for optimal performance.

  • Once adjustments are complete, the Smarter AI Dashcam automatically self-calibrates to ensure optimal performance, accommodating different drivers, vehicle types, and mounting positions without requiring manual recalibration.

Auto Pairing

  • Auto pairing is a zero-touch feature that allows Smarter AI dashcams to automatically connect and sync with a vehicle’s or telematics device’s fleet management system as soon as they are plugged in.

  • When a Smarter AI dashcam is connected to a vehicle or telematics device, it instantly detects the fleet management system and syncs with it. The dashcam automatically inherits the necessary settings, permissions, and policies—eliminating the need for manual configuration.

Self Calibration

  • Self calibration is an AI-powered feature that automatically adjusts Smarter AI cameras after installation or adjustment. It fine-tunes settings like focus, exposure, and field of view based on the camera’s mounted position, ensuring optimal performance for ADAS and DMS systems without the need for manual recalibration.

  • Once triggered, self calibration uses the camera’s AI engine to evaluate its mounted position and field of view. It makes automatic adjustments to critical settings such as focus, exposure, and angle to ensure precise data capture. This process continuously adapts to environmental changes like lighting or vehicle configuration without requiring manual intervention.

  • Self calibration is automatically activated after the camera is mounted and aligned through Adjustment Mode. It continues running in the background, recalibrating the camera as needed when changes in the environment, vehicle setup, or driving conditions occur.

Triggers & Alerts

  • Both an audible alert (a chime) and spoken feedback are available for all events.

  • Smarter AI Cameras offer a range of ADAS and DMS triggers, including tailgating, rolling stops, phone use, seatbelt violations, distraction, and more. You can find out more information about the triggers and their parameters, here.

  • Unlike conventional dashcams, Smarter AI dashcams have an AI Container. An AI Container houses all Smarter AI ADAS and DMS models. The dashcams come preloaded with these AI containers and have the ability to swap out containers depending on the fleet’s use case.

  • Yes, Smarter AI Dashcam G supports driver incentivisation by supporting events such as Defensive Driving which get generated when drivers safely avert or avoid risky scenarios out of their control. Safety managers can then incorporate these events into their safety and coaching programs.

  • No, Smarter AI Dashcams don’t need a review period to function. Camera events can be captured out of the box once video rules are enabled in MyG. 

  • Smarter AI dashcams wake up and go into Parking based on the movement of the vehicle. By default, the dashcam goes into Light Nap after 5 minutes of the vehicle being stationary/idle, and wakes up on vehicle movement.

    With our integrated Smarter Power Management, the dashcam intelligently distinguishes between brief stops and extended downtime, switching from Light Nap to Deep Sleep Mode to conserve battery life, which ensures continuous readiness and optimal power usage.

  • Once the vehicle is parked and the ignition is switched to off - the camera stays on for 5 minutes before going into Light Nap Mode. It can always be awakened to pull a live view at any time by clicking on the 'Watch live stream' option inside the camera menu in MyG.

  • The Smarter AI camera is equipped with an accelerometer as well as its own SIM so that it can register impact and upload event separately from the GO9 device. In the event of a break in, a strong enough impact could awaken the camera and trigger recording.  The camera will not be continuously recording beyond the first 5 minutes following ignition off.

  • This is technically possible but not a current feature.

  • Smarter AI supports multiple other languages (Spanish, French, German, etc) along with different accents and genders. Currently, only French and Spanish are supported inside MyG.

Video Playback

  • Immediately.

  • Yes, Smarter AI events can be modified to increase or decrease the length of the event recording.

  • Event labels are AI-powered insights that provide real-time context for driving events detected by Smarter AI dashcams.

    These labels highlight critical data points—such as time to collision, distance to collision, speed, and event magnitude—giving safety managers a clear and actionable understanding of what happened on the road. Tailored for each event type, they ensure fleet operators can make informed decisions quickly and effectively.

  • You can add or remove labels by clicking on the ‘X’ next to the label, and add it by clicking on the “+” at the bottom right of the video player in MyG.

    • This issue is likely due to browser or extension compatibility. The SAI dashcam uses H.265 for video compression, which some browsers, like Firefox, may not support. We recommend using Chrome, Edge, or Safari with the latest updates.

    • If the issue persists, please provide the browser name, version, and any enabled extensions.

Physical Specifications

  • The Smarter AI Dashcam doesn’t have an internal battery but has a supercapacitor instead to manage challenging power conditions in all types of vehicles and environments.

    • Modern batteries have limited lifespans which increases maintenance costs in the field

    • Batteries do not like extremely cold or hot weather, limiting the operational temperature range of the dashcam.

    • Supercapacitors have none of the issues mentioned above.

    Smarter AI Supercapacitors store enough energy to enable the Smarter AI Dashcam to handle all power conditions.

Cyber Security & Data Protection

  • Smarter AI uses AES-256 encryption to protect all data in transit and at rest. This ensures that your data is secure from unauthorized access at every stage of its lifecycle.

  • Yes, Smarter AI is SOC 2 compliant, meaning we adhere to stringent standards for data security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.

    • We use AES-256 encryption, one of the strongest encryption methods available, to safeguard your data during transmission and while it is stored on our platform.

    • Access to sensitive data is restricted to authorized personnel only, and all access is logged and monitored to prevent unauthorized use or breaches.

  • Adjustment Mode allows installers to view live video streams only for the purpose of adjusting the cameras. During this process, events and other camera data remain inaccessible to comply with data protection and privacy regulations.

  • As part of our SOC 2 compliance, we undergo regular audits and continuous monitoring to ensure we meet the highest security standards and address emerging threats.
